Are you Mob-eligible?
Mob eligibility is as follows:
Mob New England is a group for all women, including transsexual/transgender/intersex women who live their daily lives as women, and all female-born transgender/genderqueer persons age 21 and over who have an interest in BDSM.
So, you are Mob-eligible and thinking about joining Mob. What is your first step?
Zip us an e-mail or just show up!
You can e-mail us (info at mobnewengland dot org) and our New Member Coordinator will reply to you with an info-filled introductory e-mail. She’ll also put you on a low-volume prospective member announcement list to keep you in the loop. (Helpful hint: When you e-mail us, be sure that you are using an e-mail address you are comfortable using for kink-related e-mails.)
Or, just show up at one of our monthly business meetings and/or demos, come to one of our quarterly orientations, or show up at one of the open-to-the-Mob-eligible-public events we occasionally have. You can find details like locations and dates on our handy Google calendar.
Once you’ve attended a business meeting or an orientation, the membership process will have actually begun! As a pending member, your membership progress will be tracked by our New Member Coordinator.
Then what?
The membership process is pretty simple. Over a span of three to six months, you:
- Attend one business meeting (feel free to attend more!)
- Attend an orientation
- Provide a service to Mob
Mob is a volunteer-run group. It’s because of the participation and contribution from our members that we continue to be a dynamic group. Providing a service to the group is easy! You can take minutes at a business meeting, or help post online publicity, or volunteer with a project the group is working on. The New Member Coordinator will totally help you figure out what service is best for you!
Once the membership process is completed, you’ll be notified that you are eligible to arrange dues! See? Easy!
How much are Mob dues? What do dues do?
Mob dues are $20; more if you can, less if you can’t. Mob strives for accessibility, and we understand that sometimes budgets are tight. If you do have cash to contribute, great.
Dues go toward paying our meeting space rental, demo expenses, Web site fees, and more. We keep dues confidential between each member and our Treasurer. The New Member Coordinator will connect you with the Treasurer and you two will handle it from there privately.
Anything else?
Once you confirm with the New Member Coordinator that you are comfortable sharing your preferred e-mail address and selected scene name or first name with the whole group, our Web Mistress will add you to our Mob email lists. We have two main lists: the Mob Business List and the Mob Social List. You’ll get a Mob membership card to flash at will! And we’ll give you an opportunity to introduce yourself to the group by filling out a fun (promise!) questionnaire on-list.
Oooh, and don’t forget about the perks!
The best part about Mob New England membership is, of course, getting to be a part of such a diverse and exciting group of kinksters. On- and off-list conversations, hearing about the hot parties and fun first, and participating with the group within the greater kink community all are important pieces of membership. But, hey, there are other perks of card-carrying membership, too!
- Free monthly demos! Members attend the monthly demo series for free, which means up-close-and-personal access to some of the steamiest and smartest presenters around!
- Free group pin! Upon joining, you’ll be given an enamel group logo pin to wear with pride on the lapel of your leather vest, the strap of your backpack, the elastic of your jockstrap, or the satin of your camisole.
- Complete access to our ever-growing kinky library! The Mob library collection includes novels, autobiographies, reference works, DVDs, and zines about sex, bondage, and leather, all for your borrowing and perusing pleasure!
- Discounts to events and businesses like the Fetish Fair Fleamarket, Dark Odyssey, and the Coolidge Corner Theater!
Any questions about any of this? Seriously, e-mail our New Member Coordinator (info at mobnewengland dot org). She really does love trying to answer questions!
